British prime minister David Cameron has announced that money is no object when it comes to tackling the floods now inundating towns to the west of London. Coincidentally, the flooded regions are bastions of Conservative party supporters, who for decades have been voting for lower government expenditure and tax cuts for the rich (themselves).
With flood protection infrastructure incapable of handling the heaviest rains ever recorded, these tax cutters are suddenly learning to appreciate the value of public investment.
